Description
Australian health specialist Carol Jacobsen (left) sits with her visiting daughter on the steps of a building in Phnom Penh. Since October 1988, Jacobsen has been administrating the Expanded Program on Immunisation (EPI) for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), initially during the Vietnamese occupation and later under the State of Cambodia (SOC) government during the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) period. The EPI aims to immunise children against preventable diseases, such as tuberculosis and poliomyelitis, and remains a high and continuing priority for UNICEF since the fall of the Pol Pot regime in the late 1970s.
