Description

An informal portrait of Doctor Helen Jarvis, a librarian and Associate Professor at the School of Information Systems, Technology and Management Department of the University of New South Wales. Dr Jarvis initially came to Cambodia in 1987, and with the help of an Australian Research Council grant in 1991 to study Cambodia's national information infrastructure, has acted as a facilitator for the rebuilding of the National Library of Cambodia and its collections, raising awareness and funds internationally. The Library suffered immeasurable harm to its staff and collections during the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime. Dr Jarvis remains an active advocate for Cambodia, and currently heads the Cambodian Genocide Data Base (CGDB) project, which combines bibliographic, biographic, photographic and geographic information pertinent to both victims and perpetrators of the Khmer Rouge's vast human rights violations.
