Studio portrait of 2940 Private (Pte) John Mooney from Wagga Wagga, NSW. Pte Mooney enlisted on 28 March 1916; assigned to the 56th Battalion, he embarked for France on 25 October 1916 aboard A11 Ascanius. He also served with the 10th Battalion. While attached to the 19th Battalion with regimental number 2940B, he died of wounds near Vaulx, Pas de Calais, France on 4 May 1917. He is buried in Vaulx Australian Field Ambulance Cemetery.
