Informal group portrait of members of 2/19th Battalion and some local employees at the rubber estate of H G Jefferson. The Battalion was later captured by the Japanese in the fall of Singapore on 15 February 1942 and most of the men were either killed in action (KIA) or held as prisoners of war (POW). Identified from left to right: NX60090 Lieutenant (Lt) John Ahton Varley (POW); NX54110 Lt Gordon Roy Bennett (POW); NX4572 Private (Pte) Patrick Edward Harrington (POW); NX35198 Pte Harold John Tonacia (POW); NX35262 Acting Corporal Patrick John Verdon (lost at sea after the sinking of the Rakuyo Maru on 15 September 1944); Cooper; NX35584 Corporal (Cpl) Alan Ramsay Oag (KIA in Malaya on 16 January 1942); Walker; probably NX49633 Cpl Neil Campbell Walker (reported missing presumed KIA in Malaya on 15 February 1942); NX35203 Pte Thomas cornelius Verdon (KIA in Malaya on 16 January 1942).
