Formal portrait of 2348 Corporal Leslie Oliver Langtip DCM, 4th Australian Light Horse Regiment. An Australian of Chinese decent, Corporal Langtip had three brothers serve with him in the Regiment. They were 2345 Earnest Walter Langtip, 2346 Bertie Allan Langtip and 2347 Henry Langtip. The four enlisted together on 25 and 26 January 1916 (Australia Day) and were allocated sequential service numbers. They embarked together,served with the regiment in Egypt and Palestine, and all returned home to Victoria in June 1919. This image, taken for official records purposes, is one of series of Light Horse men who received valour and distinguished service medals. Langtip is not yet wearing the ribbon of the DCM and has an emu feather stuck in the puggaree of his slouch hat.
