Portrait of VX58990 (V31268) Captain Robert Norman (Bob) Hancock, 2/3rd Independent Company of Bacchus Marsh, Vic. He was awarded a Military Cross (MC) for his role in a series of actions against the Japanese on Bobdubi Ridge, where the actions of his company was a factor in the defeat of the Japanese at Salamaua. He served as Officer Commanding of this unit 1943 to 1944, and, from March 1945 as a member of Z Special unit. He was born at Colac, Vic, and prior to enlistment he was studying at university in Melbourne. His letters are held in the Private Records collection at the Memorial (PR91/052).
