Description

A square clear plastic protractor contained in original cardboard sleeve with instruction labels attached to front and back. Condition v.good.

History / Summary

This type of instrument was used by RAF and RAAF navigators for laying and reading a course or bearing, taking a bearing to or from a compass on a chart, position finding, finding magnetic course from true, position fixing by angles, and plotting lines of position. This example was used by donor's late husband 415148 Flying Officer Charles Vernon Stuart Hutchison RAAF (1912-1988) who served as a navigator / bomb aimer with 38 Squadron RAF (Wellington bombers) in North Africa from May 1943 to January 1944, and as a bombing instructor with RAAF 78 Observer Training Unit in Palestine, 1944.
