Salvage. Every little helps
Designed by Sid Chilvers, this First World War British poster aims to encourage the public to recycle and re-use waste. The poster depicts a dog holding an old boot in its mouth, standing on top of a mound of war debris. At the right base of the mound, a notice board is marked 'To Salvage Dump'. War damaged houses are visible in the background right. Text appears both above and below this image printed in brown ink. Sidney Robert Chilvers (1884-1961) was born in Snettisham, Norfolk, England and volunteered during the Great War in 1915. He became 96376 Gunner Sidney Robert Chilvers, Royal Garrison Artillery, 26 Siege Battery No.2 Gun, 6 Corp, 3rd Army. After the war he continued his career as an artist (including commercial art) and signed his paintings as Sid R. Chilvers.
