Description

Informal group portrait of four of the prisoner of war (POW) doctors and senior officers, along with four NCO's, believed to be in Fukuoka Camp No 7B, taken just after the Japanese surrender. Identified, left to right, seated: unidentified RAF doctor; Squadron Leader (later Air Commodore) McCarthy, RAF; Flight Lieutenant R R McSwiney, RAF doctor; Dutch doctor Lieutenant 1 Alidus Theodorus Groot Wesseldijk. Standing: two British Chief Petty Officers and two British Warrant Officers. Note that a number of the men are wearing rank insignia which was previously forbidden in the camp.
