Description

Studio portrait of the Camp Commander, believed to be Tsuyoshi Sakai, of Fukuoka Camp No 7B prisoner of war camp located on Kyushu Island. The portrait was presented to Flight Lieutenant R R McSwiney and was inscribed in Japanese, but believed to be translated as 'New friend, Captain McSwiney, A memento on the occasion of our parting. Wishing you health and happiness. 1945, August, the day peace came.'
