Description

A standard Italian canteen of one litre capacity, originally issued in 1933 and used throughout the Second World War. The body of the canteen is made from aluminium, as is the screw lid which is also fitted with a smaller plug to allow the user to drink without undoing the lid. The plug is linked to the lid chain by a short length of chain, while the lid is chained to one of the shoulder sling mounts. A mount is secured to either side of the canteen and carry the adjustable khaki green shoulder strap. The body of the canteen is fitted with a grey green felt cover. Crude sewing repairs have been made to the felt in the region of the strap mounts.
