Description

A United States First World War poster issued by the United States Food Administration (poster No.6) in 1918. Depicts a tableaux of fish and vegetables suggesting abundance. The text printed in yellow is positioned in the lower centre right and urges the viewer to more corn, oats, and rye products and less wheat , meat and sugar in order to feed the soldiers and allies. Both the image and text are set against a green background. L. The poster illustrates a government program designed to save wheat by declaring one day a week as a wheatless day. Britton's poster requests that viewers eat more corn, oats and rye - fish and poultry - fruits, vegetable and potatoes. Viewers are called upon to eat less wheat, meat, sugar and fats to save for the army and our allies. Britton's (L.N. Britton (1858–1934)) elegant style was similar to and influenced by the German poster artist Ludwig Hohlwein.
