Type 97 wireless telephone : Imperial Japanese Navy
Description
Olive green Type 97 Lightweight Wireless Telephone (radio set). Manufacturer's Type YT-189. UZ-31MC marked internally below valve. Tuning and selector knobs on left side. Mounting bracket for aerial? (possibly non original as it is painted gloss dark green) screwed to right side. Maker's plate on top. Frequency and milli-amp gauges on front. Aerial mounting clamps on to. Access lid on top. Internals are complete including valve. '1-9' is painted on the lid. 'CAAC' is impressed into the internal selector switch casing and a Japanese Navy insignia (anchor) is impressed into the identity label.

This wireless telephone was souvenired during World War Two by RAAF personnel on Bougainville Island.
