Buy war bonds
An Australian First World War poster issued by the Government to promote the sale of War Loan bonds. The poster features the image of the Australian flag billowing from the upper right corner. This is set against a maroon background with the title positioned along the bottom in yellow. From early 1915 Australia was asked by the British Government to start paying for her own share of the War Effort. It was decided to raise loans from the public and the Commonwealth bank of Australia was asked to manage this process on behalf of the Commonwealth Government. On 1st July 1915 the first War Loan was launched. In total seven other War Loan campaigns followed and all were oversubscribed. The last was launched on 1st August 1918 just months before the end of the war.
