Description
Rectangular sample piece of undyed Irish linen used for covering wooden framed aircraft. The linen is frayed 8 mm from the bottom.
History / Summary
Collected by William C Batten who worked for Vickers Limited on the construction of Vickers aircraft during the First World War. The piece of linen was of the type used to cover the wings and fuselage of aircraft. Batten continued work in various capacities on the construction of aircraft during the Second World War with the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation Pty Ltd.
