Description
Papers of 4871 Lance Corporal William Hamilton Smith. Smith initially served with the 32 Battalion and transferred to 15 Field Company, Australian Engineers on 1 May 1918. The papers include various war-related and personal certificates as well as a diary and postcards written by Smith during the war. The diary covers 22 December 1916 to 1 May 1919, with the most substantial entries relating to Smith's experience on the front line in France in 1918. The postcards are addressed to either his wife Gertrude or his son Lawrence.
