Model field gun from wedding cake : Sergeant H S Smith, Royal Australian Artillery
Description
Hollow cast miniature field gun with movable wheels and barrel. The cannon has been painted silver and the makers details are stamped on the carriage body.
History / Summary
This miniature gun was placed on top of the wedding cake of NX124705 Sergeant Herbert Sydney Smith and his bride for their wedding in 1941. Sgt Smith was the youngest Master Gunner in the Royal Australian Artillery at the age of 27. He served in Darwin in 1942 and after the war was posted to Australia House in 1948. In 1952 he served as a Warrant Officer II at Holdsworthy Barracks, NSW.
