Description
A distant view of Villeret. This village, almost completely demolished and honeycombed with trenches and machine gun posts, was the scene of a neat enterprise by members of the 11th and 12th Battalions during a two hours' respite in the attack on the Hindenburg Line outposts on 18 September 1918. Denied the brief rest owing to the spasmodic machine gun fire coming from the village, several patrols, some trench mortars, and a tank went out on a plan of their own and overcame the trouble either by extermination, taking prisoner, or driving out of the enemy.
