Description

Studio portrait of 11064 Petty Officer (PO) Cook (s), John Stanley Davey RAN, of St Kilda, Vic, son of Maria Aubrey and George Davey. PO Davey served on HMAS Sydney and was killed in action when the ship was lost with all hands on 19 November 1941 after its engagement with the Kormoran in the Indian Ocean. PO Davey joined the Royal Australian Navy on 6 January 1919 serving on HMAS Sydney I, HMAS Australia, HMAS Melbourne and HMAS Brisbane as well as a number of shore establishments. From 9 January 1928 he served as a member of Royal Australian Fleet Reserve (RAFR), before being recalled for duty on 31 August 1939 to HMAS Cerberus. On 10 March 1941 he joined HMAS Sydney II serving on this ship until his death.
