Have you a red cross service flag?
Description
An American Red Cross Society poster issued during the First World War to encourage members to attain Red Cross Service Flags. It was designed by renowned American children's book illustrator Jessie Willcox Smith and was her only wartime poster. The image fills the whole and is of a young boy dressed in a blue playsuit with a white collar placing his Red Cross Service Flag in the window of his home. Above the flag a Christmas wreath is visible and the fabric of the curtains which frame the image have a oriental design. The title is positioned over the top of the image in the pelmet of the curtains. The simple design cleverly places the emblem of the red cross prominently at its centre for maximum impact.
