Société Française de secours aux blesses militaires [French Society for the aid of the military wounded]
Description
A man and child plead with a nurse who is dressed in the white uniform of the French Red Cross, and her response is to look toward the sky or heaven as she tends to the standing man as well as the grief stricken man who crouches at her feet.
It is well known that the activities of 'La Société Française de Secours aux blessés militaires' or the Red Cross in France between 2 August 1914 and 1st January 1916 as depicted in images like these would popularise the widespread activities of this organisation during the 17 month duration of the First World War.
