Description
A Republic of Korea (ROK) Military Police guard at Panmunjom in the United Nations (UN) Joint Security Area (JSA) in the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea. Several of these guards are posted whenever visitors are taken to Panmunjom and remain in place while visitors are present. The guard is standing in a position known as "ROK-ready", a modified Tae Kwon Do stance thought to intimidate his North Korean counterparts. The UN JSA badge is seen on his right pocket, epaulettes and helmet. The building next to the guard is painted UN blue and is one of four buildings in which negotiations between North and South Korean delegates took place. The building sits astride the actual border line between the two countries.
