Description

The damaged vehicle in which two Australian peacekeepers were injured in an accident in Pakistan on about 5 May 1981. The two men, Captain (Capt) William A (Bill) Reid and Capt B W O'Shea, were serving in Kashmir as observers with the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP). Their vehicle was being driven by a local driver when it collided with an oncoming lorry. Capt Reid was badly injured in the legs and face, and was evacuated to Australia. Capt O'Shea was unhurt.
