Description
Studio portrait of 1984 Private (Pte) Alexander George McArthur, 14th Battalion, of Sea Lake, Vic. Pte McArthur enlisted on 21 September 1914 and was promoted to lance corporal. He was wounded and captured by the Germans at Bullecourt on 9 April 1917. He died on 20 April 1917 whilst a prisoner of war and was buried near Hamburg, Germany. His brother, 30453 Gunner George Angus McArthur, 5th Brigade, Australian Field Artillery, enlisted on 6 June 1916 and was killed in action on 24 April 1918, in France.
