Informal portrait of 402164 Squadron Leader (Sqn Ldr) Denis Russell Lawrence, DFC DFC(USA). Sqn Ldr Lawrence of Sydney, NSW, enlisted on 24 June 1940, and trained as a pilot. In November 1944 he was awarded a US Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism in collaboration with the US Navy on 14-16 January 1944. He was serving with 11 Squadron RAAF, when he was awarded a DFC for his skill and courage attacking Wissell Lakes, Tanto, Arafura. He was discharged on 15 November 1946.
