Studio portrait of 1680 Private (Pte) William George Kite DCM, MM, MID, leaning on a chair back. Pte Kite served with the 2nd Reinforcements, 56th Battalion, and is of Narraburra via Temora, New South Wales, aged 22 years. He embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Ceramic on 14 April 1916. Pte Kite performed feats of bravery during First World War where he worked as a runner for Australian Infantry, carrying messages between the trenches in France. After the war he returned to his previous employment as a rouse about and opal miner. He passed away at age 70 in 1966 at Lightning Ridge.
