Description

The original grave marker, covered in flowers, of 1166 Trooper (Tpr) Horatio Ernest Braham DCM, 11th Australian Light Horse, of Grafton South, NSW. Tpr Braham enlisted on 23 August 1915 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Mashobra on 4 October 1915. He died of pneumonia in Egypt on 21 October 1918 aged 26 years. Tpr Braham was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) on 14 February 1918 ‘for conspicuous bravery at Khirbet Sihan on 19 April 1917 when, as a stretcher bearer, he rendered exceptionally good services in bringing in wounded men from positions exposed to heavy shell, machine gun and rifle fire with an absolute disregard for his own safety’.
