Description
The original grave marker, covered in flowers, of 15146 Private (Pte) George Stanley Major, 14th General Hospital, Australian Army Medical Corps, of South Melbourne, Vic. Pte Major enlisted on 7 February 1916 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Karoola on 19 August 1916. He died of dysentery in Egypt on 5 June 1918 aged 30 years. His unit members voluntarily subscribed and erected a brass memorial at St Silas, Church of England, Pakenham, Vic.
