Description
The original grave marker, covered in flowers, of 345 Trooper (Tpr) Ralph Poole, 2nd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron, late of 7th Australian Light Horse, of The Rock, NSW, originally of Healaugh, Yorkshire, England. Tpr Poole enlisted on 1 October 1914 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Ayrshire on 20 December 1914. He contracted enteric fever and returned to Australia on March 1916. He recovered, re-enlisted and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Hymettus on 12 September 1916. He was wounded in action and died from these wounds in Egypt on 20 November 1917 aged 22 years.
