Description
Studio portrait of 1066 Private (Pte) Kenneth Shaw Buchan, C Company, 23rd Battalion. A clerk of Kew, Victoria, prior to enlistment on 8 Mar 1915 he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Euripides on 5 May 1915 for Gallipoli. His unit relocated to Egypt in January 1916 where he was promoted to Corporal (Cpl). His battalion relocated to the Western Front, France, during March 1916. Cpl Buchan was killed in action on 4 August 1916 at Pozieres, France. He has no known grave and he is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial. He was aged 26 years.
