RAAF pilot's embroidered wings qualification brevet. White cotton embroidered wings, a King's crown, and 'RAAF' within a pale blue embroidered laurel wreath, on a RAAF blue wool patch.
History / Summary
Associated with 408656 Flight Sergeant Kenneth James, of 460 Squadron, a 23 year old dental student from Melbourne, who was killed in action on 21 April 1943 while returning from a bombing mission over Germany. His Lancaster was shot down by a German night fighter over Denmark near the town of Vestbirk. There were no survivors. The crew was buried in the Esbjerg Cemetery. A memorial was erected near the crash site to commemorate the event.
