Sea mines on deck on board the minelayer HMS Abdiel, ready to be laid. The round mine is sitting in a box which is the anchor. Inside the anchor is a winding mechanism which allows the cable out to preset lengths. HMS Abdiel was lost on 9 September 1943 in Taranto Bay, Italy.
