Description

Studio portrait of six soldiers. Identified, left to right: 1133 Trooper (Tpr) Edward Roy O'Keefe, 7th Reinforcements, 6th Light Horse Regiment, of Dalby, Qld, wearing the badge to denote he is a qualified signaller. Tpr O'Keefe enlisted on 11 January 1915 and embarked aboard HMAT Chilka from Sydney on 7 June 1915. He returned to Australia on 21 November 1916; 1576 Tpr Francis Williams, 1st Reinforcements, 24th Battalion, of Abbotsford, Vic. Tpr Williams enlisted on 5 April 1915 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Ceramic on 25 June 1915. He returned to Australia on 31 August 1915; 1096 Sergeant (Sgt) Lambert Adrian Guest, 7th Reinforcements, 7th Light Horse Regiment, of Narrabri, NSW. Sgt Guest enlisted on 7 December 1914 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Chilka on 7 June 1915. He died of wounds on 17 November 1915 at Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey; 4038 Tpr Donald Wallace McLean, 12th Reinforcements, 4th Battalion, of Ariah Park, NSW. Tpr McLean enlisted on 6 August 1915 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Medic on 30 December 1915. He died of wounds on 26 July 1916 at Pozieres, France; 1130 Tpr Andrew Cochrane, 6th Light Horse Regiment, of Sydney, NSW. Tpr Cochrane enlisted on 6 December 1914 and embarked aboard HMAT Chilka on 7 June 1915. He was promoted to corporal and returned to Australia on 27 June 1919; and 1090 Tpr Austin William Edwards, 1st Light Horse Regiment, of Manning River, NSW. Tpr Edwards enlisted on 14 February 1915 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Marere on 16 August 1915. The men from states other than Victoria were possibly in Broadmeadows for signals training.
