Description

British Second World War poster issued by the Ministry of Home Security praising the work of fire bomb fighters. The poster depicts a hand clasping a hose above burning text. The image is in red while the text is in white, set against red flames. Both are set against a black background. The title is taken from a quote by Herbert Morrison, the Minister of Home Security. The larger quote from which it came is : "We must win the battle on the home front. Fire raids will continue to be one of the greatest menaces to our independence and freedom and we have all got to lend a hand to beat them. Let there be no hanging back, put all your courage, energy and skill into this vital task of war. Fall in the fire bomb fighters!"

Incendiary bombs were dropped in clusters to spread fires. In September 1940, a Fire Watchers Order was issued in Britain compelling men to fire watch for a maximum of 48 hours per month. Factories and large buildings were responsible for providing their own fire watchers.
