Group portrait of a mixed nationality air crew from 218 Squadron RAF posing in front of their Lancaster bomber U Uncle at RAF station Chedburgh in Suffolk. 434185 Flying Officer (FO) Robert Alfred 'Alf' Cowley (centre) of Brisbane, Queensland, had previously served with the 2/2 Anti Tank Regiment in the Syrian campaign against the Vichy French before transferring to the RAAF in September 1942.
