Description
Portrait of 21905 Able Seaman Rex Cooper of Randwick, NSW. Enlisting in the navy for twelve years in 1928, Cooper spent his entire service on board HMAS Sydney (II) as a Seaman Torpedoman. He was one of the 645 crew who were killed during the HMAS Sydney's engagement with the German auxiliary cruiser HSK Kormoran on 19 November 1941. This photograph is an enlargement of a small studio portrait sent by Cooper to his mother, with an inscription "To Dear Mother, Love from x Rex x", which is also held in the Memorial's collection.
