Crew members standing in front of a United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B26 Martin Marauder ...
Description
Crew members standing in front of a United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B26 Martin Marauder bomber which has been named 'sourpuss'. Identified from left to right: Charles Smith of South Carolina, navigator; Alan Larson of Wisconsin pilot; Gordon McMillan of Melbourne co-pilot. This B26 was probably part of the 22nd Bomb Group (22nd BG), United States 5th Air Force, which operated from bases in Australia and from a forward base called Seven Mile Drome at Port Moresby. It was not uncommon for Australian aircrew to fly with the 22nd BG. Known as the Red Raiders the 22nd BG attacked Japanese targets in Timor, Lae, Salamaua and Rabaul.
