Battle for fuel - switch off when you are warm use less electricity
British Second World War poster promoting fuel savings. Depicts a man lounging in an armchair, silhouetted against the blaze of the fire in front of him. The fire has the symbol of a sailing ship in the top. The title of the poster 'BATTLE FOR FUEL' runs across the upper part of the poster, and the rest of the text is integrated into the lower half, under the armchair. This poster is one of the series of 'battle for fuel' posters. With the cost of the war mounting as the years passed, the British Government promoted domestic saving to provide more support for front line action. Many of these 'savings' posters associate home activities with front line activities, underscoring the concept of 'total war'. There is another version of this poster, but instead of urging people to use less electricity, it urges them to use less gas. Note that related editions have the same image but electric fire is without a ship image.
