Save Coal, Don't Use the Poker: Battle for Fuel
Description
British Second World War poster promoting fuel savings. With the cost of the war mounting as the years passed, the British Government promoted domestic saving to provide more support for front line action. Many of these 'savings' posters associate home activities with front line activities, underscoring the concept of 'total war'. This poster specifically promotes the saving of coal for the war effort. Posters such as this one gave helpful pointers on how best to maximise the efficient use of coal - this poster instructs its audience to not use the 'poker' (a device for stoking up a fire) when tending to a fire, presumably because it reduces the efficiency.
