Studio portrait of 583 Corporal (Cpl) Frederick William Hodson, 44th Battalion, of Kurrawang, WA (seated), with his friend Joe Miller (probably 602 Private Joseph Miller who enlisted on 1 February 1916 and returned to Australia on 23 September 1918) . Born in Formby, Lancashire, England, Cpl Hodson enlisted on 15 January 1916 and was killed in action on 10 June 1917 near Messines. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Ieper, Belgium.
