Description
Studio portrait of 3595 Private (Pte) Norman John Noble, 23rd Battalion, of North Fitzroy, Vic, (left) 3602A Pte Joseph Daniel O'Donnell, 23rd Battalion, of Koo Wee Rup, Vic (right) and another unidentified soldier (centre). Pte Noble enlisted on 13 September 1915 and embarked aboard HMAT Afric on 5 January 1916. On 13 July 1916 he was reported missing in action while serving with the 60th Battalion during the Battle of Fromelles. On 19 July 1916 he was recorded as killed in action at Fromelles in France. Pte O'Donnell enlisted on 17 September 1915 and embarked aboard HMAT Demosthenes on 29 December 1915. On 26 September 1917 he returned to Australia as a member of the 67th Battalion.
