Urgently Needed! Fat Stock For Winter Killing
This Second World War poster addresses the common theme of food. It is aimed at farmers and other keepers of livestock, and asks them to provide their fat stock to help Australia meet their food obligations to "cope with the demands of the Fighting Services [sic], to meet [Australia's] obligations to the severely rationed people of Great Britain, and to supply [Australia's] civilian population."
The top half of the poster contains the red text "Urgently needed!", beneath which is a drawing of three fat animals: a cow, sheep and pig. Beneath the image is the text "FAT STOCK / for / Winter Killing."
The lower half contains text that cites the utility of this as is to "Retain seasonal labour in the Meatworks. / Ease the cool storage position. / Relieve the demands on slaughtering facilities. / Make it easier to obtain trucks when you want them for lambs."
During the Second World War, one of Australia's major roles was to provide food for members of the Allied nations. Meat, owing to its ability to be butchered and preserved, played a major role in this food supply.
