Dr Lloyd Ross D.Litt., M.A., LLB. will speak here...
This British Second World War poster was a generic poster produced by the Minsitry of Information to be distributed to different locations where Dr Ross was speaking.
Dr Ross was a leading trade unionist during the interbellum years, heavily advocating for wage increases for some of Australia's lowest paid workers. At the beginning of the war, Ross was a member of the Communist Party of Australia, but was soon expellent in 1940 after losing faith in the doctrine, particularly the role that Russia was playing in the war. In December 1942 Ross was an Australian delegate to the Institute of Pacific Relations Conference in Canada, after which he gave a speaking tour throughout America then in the United Kingdom. He was also an influential memver of the Australian Labor Party.
During the Second World War, the Ministry of Information employed people such as Dr Ross to give talks about other countries, cultures, and general war matters. This poster would have been distributed to the venues that she presented in ahead of time and they would have filled in the relevant details to advertise the talks. The poster also includes a short biography.
