Dig for Victory
This Second World War poster was aimed at workers on peanut plantations in British Guyana. The poster was created to show workers the results of their hard work and to encourage them to continue working in order to air the Allied war effort.
The through a series of four images, the poster depicts the pathway of the peanut, from being harvested from the ground, to their collection, processing and finally eating. Starting in the top left, the poster depicts people digging up peanuts. The next depicts a worker carrying a sack in the foreground, with produce being loaded into a cart in the background. The third image is of a factory worker processing the peanuts into a spread. The final image shows three Allied soldiers sitting together eating, while taking shelter in a partly-demolished building with explosions in the background.
The phrase 'dig for victory' refers to the digging up of these nuts. This item has been digitised with funding provided by Commonwealth Government.
