0314174 Squadron Leader (Sqn Ldr) Brian Leslie John Dirou, works on a Bell Iroquois UH-1H helicopter gunship of No 9 Squadron, RAAF. Sqn Ldr Dirou was the project officer during the development phase of the 'Bushranger' (gunship) models, he is shown here arming one of the squadron's aircraft with machine gun ammunition and rockets. Sqn Ldr Dirou was the air weapons officer and for his service with the squadron in 1968-69 he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) medal on 13 March 1969.
