Description
Silver Female Relative's Badge with a blue enamelled oval around the voided letters 'AIF'. The oval contains the words 'ISSUED BY DEPT OF DEFENCE TO WOMEN OF AUSTRALIA'. An enamelled scroll beneath this contains the words 'FOR DUTY DONE'. The badge is surmounted with a King's Crown and has a pin fastening on the back. The reverse is stamped with the maker's details and the number '118765'.
History / Summary
Worn by Mrs Kate Friend, mother of 6080 Private John Cameron Friend. Friend was born in 1892 and enlisted on 12 September 1916. He served with the 22 Battalion and returned to Australia on 12 March 1918. On 14 May 1917 Friend was recommended for, and later received, the Military Medal.
