Rich, Douglas St George (Lieutenant, b.1871 - d.1904)
Description
Letters (typescripts and copies of originals) written to his family by Lieutenant Douglas St George Rich whilst serving with the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen in South Africa, covering the period 25 April 1901 to 29 August 1902. Subjects include voyage to South Africa (SS Victorian), 'drives' against the Boers in the eastern Transvaal, hospitalisation with measles and later, delays in his return to Australia. Letter dated 22 October 1901 details the circumstances for which Lt Rich was later 'Mentioned in Despatches'.
