Description

Flying Officer Geoff Thornton DFM, AFM of Mildura, Vic, captain of the cricket team representing 78 Fighter Wing RAAF, and Leading Aircraftman Noel Chillmaid of Concord, NSW, go out to open the RAAF's innings in the final of the Governor's Cup knockout contest. Chillmaid was top scorer with a neat 31. The RAAF team dismissed the Royal Marine Commandos for only 68 and won the final. The Wing was stationed in Malta for garrison duty between 1952 and 1954, winning the Governor's Cup three years in succession.
