The cricket team representing 78 Fighter Wing RAAF poses with the newly won Governor's Cup, which will stay in the Wing's possession for the next year. In front are Corporal Fred Williams of Essendon, Vic; team captain Flying Officer Geoff Thornton DFM, AFM of Mildura, Vic; Corporal Denis Harding of Rockhampton, Qld. Behind, standing, are (left to right): Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Ken Caffrey of Mildura, Vic; Chaplain Jim Payne of Lismore, NSW; LAC Noel Chillmaid of Concord, NSW; LAC Peter Maher of Cecil Plains, Qld; LAC Frank Brown of Wingham, NSW; LAC Peter Howard of The Summit, Qld; LAC Ken Pflugrath of Coorparoo, Qld; Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Peter Pearson of Mosman, NSW. While the Wing was in Malta for garrison duty beween 1952 and 1954, the cricketers won the cup three years in succession.
