Description

Pioneer aviator James Allan 'Jimmy' Mollison raises his glass to members of 78 Fighter Wing RAAF in the Sergeants' Mess at their base in Malta during a visit to the island. Among other achievements, Mollison flew from Wyndham, WA to England in a record time of 8 days, 19 hours and 25 minutes in 1931. He was the first to make a solo Atlantic flight westward in 1932; and in 1933 he was the first to fly from England to South America.
